Spring into learning outside! When students go outdoors, they become more confident, attentive, creative, and cooperative. That’s why we’re excited to promote #OutsideFor5—a pledge campaign that encourages educators to incorporate a lesson or activity at least 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week, or any meaningful amount of time. Learn more and take the pledge today at www.outsidefor5.com.
Why are promoting Outside for 5? Studies show that outdoor learning can help children increase attention, be more motivated to learn, and control impulses more effectively. WyAEE is encouraging educators across the state to sign a pledge and commit to the following:
- Incorporate an outdoor lesson or activity at least 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week, or any meaningful time.
- Use current school curriculum and apply it to outdoor activities.
- Connect with other schools and outdoor professionals in the environmental learning space.
After an educator takes the Outside for 5 pledge, they’ll receive a series of emails with tips, resources, and other ways to engage with partners in the campaign. They’ll become part of a larger community committed to outdoor learning.
How can you help? Spread the word on your platforms. Follow along with Outside for 5 content via NAAEE’s social media platforms and the WyAEE website and FB page. Post and tag pictures of educators and students engaging in your outdoor programming—like during field trips or site visits. Use #OutsideFor5 and join the conversation!
